Some work on R and blog info

I've recently been working on a tty (serial) connection for R (the GNU statistical programming language http://www.r-project.org). The patch I'm working on (see my post here http://biostatmatt.com/archives/112 allows the user to make a connection to a serial port via the POSIX (Linux, Mac OS X) tty interface. This means that we can use R to control and collect data from devices that have a UART, like a microcontroller (Arduino!).

Our first meeting on January 21 was a great success. With 22 attendees, we first introduced ourselves and had quite a spread of experience with Ruby. We then discussed goals of the group, which included communication among members, educational presentations at meetings, local promotion of Ruby, and open source contribution. We then briefly discussed Ruby and some of its related tools.
