Mentors work with high school students to teach important technical skills in the area of art/design, linux environment/development and planning/communication. There are two segments to a team. A local graphics artist professional, Elizabeth Barndollar led the art students in the creation of the visual elements of the game. Travis and I worked with students to impart knowledge of linux systems, software development tools such as project tracking software (https://launchpad.net/team342), and the programming language python. The time span for the project was around 2 months. A lot for the students to accomplish. The progress achieved would not have been possible without the enthusiasm and hard work of the students.
Summer pyGames is looking to expand and learn from its initial running. The project is expanding in terms of number of students, mentors, and supporting parties. To become a part of Summer pyGames, email the mailing list!
